01 / START WITH A REASON

What do you actually
want to say?

Maybe you want to suggest a different plan, talk about something you love, or explain your day. Start with something you want to express.

02 / STEP INTO THE CONVERSATION

There’s someone waiting for your answer.

A noisy café. A new teammate. Half an hour for lunch. You’d like somewhere quieter, but you also need to get back to work.

LUNCH WITH A NEW TEAMMATE
A small decision. A real reason to speak.
EXAMPLE
The café is lively inside. A quieter table outside should be free in about ten minutes.

FROM AN IDEA TO A CONVERSATION
01

Choose what matters

A word, a situation, or something you wish you could explain.

02

Step into the scene

See what’s happening and decide what you want to say.

03

Give words a purpose

Ask, explain, disagree, or suggest another way.

04

Try another way

Use the same language in a different conversation.

EXAMPLE COMPANION CONVERSATION

YOUI wanted to suggest somewhere quieter for lunch, but I didn’t want to sound rude.

AHEMYou could say, “I’d prefer somewhere a little quieter, if that’s okay.” Want to try saying it in a short scene?

Try a random story ↗

This is an example. The demo starts a separate, randomly chosen scene.

03 / MAKE IT PERSONAL

Start with something
from your day.

A thought, a question, a moment you want to explain. Conversation can help you find useful language and a place to try it.

You choose where to take it next. Sometimes that’s a story. Sometimes it’s simply more conversation.

I know the words. Why can't I use them in conversation?

Imagine finding a record you love, then struggling to explain why. That small moment shows what familiar words still need: a chance to become your own reply.

How to choose what to practice in another language

“Get better at speaking” can be hard to begin. A moment from an ordinary day can give you a much clearer place to start.

More answers ↗
What is Ahem?

Ahem is a language-learning app built around what you want to say. Practice useful phrases, explore your interests, and take part in story conversations where you choose how to respond.

How is an interactive story different from reading a story?

You decide what to say, and the character responds to your reply. Instead of just following the story, you help shape the conversation.

Do I need to know exactly what I want to learn?

No. Start with a thought from your day, a conversation you expect to have, or something you enjoy. You can also try the website demo, which chooses a scene for you.

Can Ahem replace real conversations or a teacher?

Ahem is a place to practice alongside lessons and real conversations. Teachers and other speakers bring cultural knowledge, feedback, different voices, and responses that an AI simulation cannot fully reproduce.

YOUR NEXT CONVERSATION

What would you like
to say next?
